Andy has decided not to participate at the UCI road world championships. The road race will be held in Melbourne and nearby Geelong at 3 October. He will now concentrate on the Italian autumn classics, with the Giro di Lombardia as final objective of the season.Maybe this is the right choise because this years route could not be hard enough for climbers to win the rainbow jersey. Each lap there will be two hard climbs, but the final 6 kilometers of the race are quite flat, and there will be opportunities for the sprinters to return.
Also the very long journey from Europe to Australia and back does not fit in a good preperation for the final classics of the year, because the time difference will cause a jetlag. Other riders like Alberto Contador, Robert Gesink and Roman Kreuziger have already made the same decision.
At this moment it is unknown if Frank will participate. If he won't, Luxembourg may struggle to fill its allocation of four riders at the event, because they have got not enough riders which earned UCI Protour points this year.
After the Vuelta a Espana Andy will take a short brake, and then he will go to Italy for the Coppa Sabatini, Giro del Emilia and the Giro di Lombardia. The final race suits him very well because of the long distance (260 kilometers) and the long climbs. In 2007 Andy finished 4th in Lombardy, this year he wants to win it.
